Eikos Awarded Air Force Contract To Develop Transparent Carbon Nanotube Polymers

Eikos Inc.

Franklin, MA. May 5th, 2004

Eikos Inc., a developer and licensor of highly transparent carbon nanotube (CNT) inks for conductive coatings and circuits, has been awarded an $860,000 contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory to develop transparent conductive polymers specifically for military aircraft canopies.

Eikos will help the Department of Defense (DOD) reduce canopy manufacturing and replacement costs for military aircraft using transparent conductive polymers. The resulting manufacturing processes will also make it possible for the Air Force to design aircraft canopies with a high degree of confidence in canopy conductivity requirements.

The Air Force Research Laboratory, the foremost aeronautical and aerospace research organization in the Air Force, is located at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio. Eikos also has additional conductive coating research underway with the Department of Defense as well as polymer research projects with NASA.

"We are very pleased that we've received this contract, thanks to the solid support from our Congressman, Jim McGovern (D-MA)," said Joe Piche, CEO and founder of Eikos. This project will open the door to a wide range of opportunities for Eikos to work with other government agencies researching carbon nanotube technology. Our work will contribute to the nation's military readiness and is a perfect example of government-funded research that will enhance our nation's competitiveness in non-governmental markets. The contract will also help support Eikos' primary focus which is to develop superior transparent coatings for commercial applications."

According to Rep. McGovern, "I'm very pleased that this agreement between Eikos and the Air Force is moving forward. Eikos has been at the forefront of this technology - technology that will have broad applications. I'm proud to represent the company and its amazing workforce in Congress."

About Eikos

Eikos Inc. is a developer and licensor of highly transparent carbon nanotube (CNT) inks for conductive coatings and circuits for use in flat panel displays, OLED lighting, solar cells, smart windows and other established markets. Eikos' patented InvisiconTM transparent conductors ('nanowires') will enable high volume, low cost production of a thinner, more flexible and more durable conductive coating technology that will displace Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) as the industry standard. A privately held company headquartered in Franklin Massachusetts, Eikos has a number of licenses and development contracts with major global companies, U.S. military agencies and NASA and is planning to establish manufacturing operations in the U.S. and Asia.
