IN DEPTH: TECH/BIOTECH
Abstract:
Nanotechnology - How it works: The practice of recombining objects on a molecular level to create fresh materials with new physical properties. Eddie Bauer's stain and wrinkle-free pants, Toyota's dent-free car bumpers and ever-bouncy tennis balls are among the dozen or so products on the market that employ the technology. More things, like mini-robots injected into your bloodstream to seek and destroy cancer cells and an exoskeleton for U.S. soldiers that would repel bullets, heal wounds and change colors are forseen in 10 to 30 years.
