Squeezing light from nanotubes
Abstract:
Scientists at IBM Research have discovered a new way to get carbon nanotubes to emit light, a breakthrough that might one day lead to advances in fiber-optic technology. At the University of Toronto, meanwhile, researchers have managed to produce light by injecting electrons into a polymer embedded with "quantum dots," microscopic crystals made of lead sulfide.
