Nanotech catches the imagination of scientists and politicians
Abstract:
In Israel, a land long governed by politics but a forerunner in technology, Shimon Peres, Nobel Peace Prize winner, former prime minister and leading visionary, has taken it upon himself to ensure Israel's place in nanotechnology, the emerging science of matter measured in one billionth of a meter. Industry experts say nanotechnology applications have the potential to make almost anything smaller, sturdier, stronger, and more powerful. Peres likes to talk about using nanotechnology to desalinate water, manufacture climate-controlled clothing, and create military units without soldiers.
