Abstract:
In the sometimes-churlish start-up world, the act of sharing isn't considered a noble virtue. It can be a, "what's mine is mine" sort of world. But in a pristine basement laboratory at Carnegie Mellon University, employees of a handful of fledgling local technology companies can be seen milling about, mingling with researchers and, on occasion, exchanging ideas. Instead of spending millions to build their own climate-controlled, sterile "clean rooms" a few burgeoning companies toil in CMU's 21-year-old Nanofabrication Facility.
