Abstract:
In response to the increasing demand for rapid dissemination of urgent research results in physical chemistry, the American Chemical Society (ACS) is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters. Articles published in this new journal are scientific papers of a limited length, allowing for concise reporting of results that are of immediate interest to the physical chemistry research community.

New ACS publication Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters to debut in January

Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters will complement the ACS' Journal of Physical Chemistry by offering readers a single source for the most urgent research results in all areas of physical chemistry. Led by Editor-in-Chief George C. Schatz, Ph.D., Morrison Professor of Chemistry at Northwestern University, and Deputy Editor Prashant Kamat, Ph.D., Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame, the inaugural issue of JPC Letters is planned for January 2010.

Available exclusively online, Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters serves the needs of the physical chemistry research community by offering advantages such as:

* More rapid publication of letters — With a new streamlined editorial structure focused on expediting processing times for letters, Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters will have the shortest time from submission to Web publication available among physical chemistry journals.

* Interdisciplinary scope — Researchers are increasingly integrating techniques and findings from all facets of the multidisciplinary field of physical chemistry. By combining letters from the three parts of the Journal of Physical Chemistry into a single source, researchers can stay current with new and emerging topics across this very broad field.

* New customized Web features and functionality — Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters' integrated Web platform delivers an enhanced and more efficient online reading and research experience.

Launched in 1896, the Journal of Physical Chemistry is the most-cited, most-read, and most-respected journal in physical chemistry. Dr. Schatz was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the journal in 2005. He is an active and distinguished researcher, publishing 70 papers in the last 24 months, both in the Journal of Physical Chemistry and in a number of others across physics, chemistry, and nanoscience. Dr. Schatz was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002 and to the National Academy of Sciences in 2005. Working with his Editorial Board, he organized the journal into the following three parts:

* Journal of Physical Chemistry A: Dynamics, Kinetics, Environmental Chemistry, Spectroscopy, Structure, and Theory

* Journal of Physical Chemistry B: Soft Condensed Matter and Biophysical Chemistry

* Journal of Physical Chemistry C: Nanomaterials and Interfaces, Hard Matter

Together, parts A, B, and C published 6,786 articles in 2008.
