Wingate to expand pharmacy program
Abstract:
As administrators at two state universities await the UNC system's decision on whether they can move forward with their respective pharmacy school proposals, a private school is forging ahead with its own plans.
Wingate University announced last week that it will open a satellite pharmacy program in the Asheville/Hendersonville area.
UNC-Chapel Hill, home to the state's only public pharmacy school, also wants to set up a satellite campus in Asheville, in partnership with UNC-Asheville and the health system there.
UNCG is seeking to establish a new, research-intensive pharmacy school that would not only offer a pharmacy degree but, in time, a doctorate of pharmaceutical science and possibly a nanopharmacology program with the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.
