STMicroelectronics ships one billionth MEMS device
Abstract:
ST's micro-machined accelerometers and gyroscopes have empowered motion-activated user interfaces in a number of popular consumer devices, like game consoles, smart phones and remotes, making these more accessible and appealing to consumers.
In the past five years, ST has trimmed down the size of MEMS accelerometers and gyroscopes from over 500mm2 to less than 10mm2 and at the same time increasing resolution, accuracy, temperature stability and lowering power consumption by a factor of 10. ST is now paving the consumerization wave of MEMS as well as its application to high-volume gaming systems and mobile applications.
