Abstract:
An Australian startup has solved the age-old problem of stained white t-shirts by creating a fully hydrophobic T-shirt - the first in the world to be available to the public.

Australian startup creates world’s first 100% cotton hydrophobic T-Shirts

Melbourne, Australia | Posted on February 3rd, 2015

Dubbed "The Cavalier" - the 100% cotton T-Shirt incorporates a lotus leaf inspired nanotechnology that completely repels dirt and liquids, leaving the surface of the fabric crisp, dry, and without stains.

Lewis Pitchford of Threadsmiths, the business behind the shirt, said the fibres of the shirt were created with new "water-fearing" nanotechnology.

While other white t-shirts are stained and ruined by liquids such as coffee and wine, "The Cavalier's" hydrophobic properties cause liquids to bead-up and fall off the fabric - cleaning the fabric in the process.

Designed in collaboration with a creative director who has experience working with some of the largest fashion brands in the world, The Cavalier comes in Men's and Women's styles and is a stylish and versatile basic.

While hydrophobic technology has previously been synthesised into a spray-on application, these aerosols completely destroy fabrics and have been known to contain carcinogenic chemicals.

The patented fabric nanotechnology is free of these carcinogens and is completely safe for regular wear. Threadsmith hopes work with other designers to expand the technology exhibited in The Cavalier to other articles of clothing and industries such a medical, hospitality and sports.
