Introduction to the new Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 Video |
Abstract:
Recordings of Malvern Instruments' July 25th launch of the Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 multiple angle light scattering (MALS) detector can now be viewed online. With this extension to its range of GPC/SEC detectors, Malvern becomes the only vendor to offer all types of static light scattering detector routinely used for absolute molecular weight measurement. The full launch webinar is available at www.malvern.com/secmals20launch while a 3-minute video which gives a basic introduction to the new system is available on YouTube at http://bit.ly/SEC-MALS20
Static light scattering is widely used within gel permeation/size exclusion chromatography (GPC/SEC) for the determination of the absolute molecular weight of protein, polymer and macromolecular species without the need for external, potentially inaccurate calibrations.
The new Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 offers numerous operational features that increase both accuracy and operational ease of use. Not only does it incorporate more detectors than any other commercial alternative, the increased detection at lower angles provides a significant improvement in accuracy compared with other MALS systems, even at high molecular weights. Additionally the new vertical, as opposed to lateral, sample flow cell with radial optics allows the use of a variety of mobile phase solvents, without the need for optical readjustment.
Malvern's static light scattering detectors, which include low angle, right angle and multi angle detectors, are available individually and are compatible with any commercial GPC/SEC system, or may be supplied integrated within a multi detection Viscotek system for comprehensive polymer, protein, and macromolecule characterization.
